Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown
  • sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 2 tsps. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 12 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate
  • chips

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease 13 x9" pan.
In large bowl, beat brown sugar and shortening until light and fluffy.
Add molasses, vanilla and eggs; blend well.
Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.
Stir in oats, flour, baking soda and salt; blend well.
Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.
Spread in prepared pan.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly brown and center is set.
Cool slightly; cut into bars.
