Ingredients

    cups flour

  • 1/3

    cups granulated sugar

  • 4

    tsp baking powder

  • 1

    tsp salt

  • 1/4

    lb margarine cut into bits

  • 3

    TB oil

Directions

Put it all into large bowl, using low speed of electric mixer to blend till consistency of fine gravel. Keep refrigerated in covered container to be used within 3 months. You may not double the recipe, but you can cut it in half, which makes a single 9" round or square layer. The above total amount is equal to an 18-oz pkg yellow cake mix. TO USE THE MIX: 5 cups (all of above mix) homemade yellow cake mix 1 cup milk l/2 tsp vanilla 3 eggs Beat all 4 ingredients on med-speed of electric mixer 5 or 6 minutes, rotating bowl in direction the opposite of which beaters are turning. Scrape down sides and bottom of bowl 3 or 4 times, during beating. Do NOT underbeat this batter. Divide then between 2 greased & floured round 9" layer cake pans. Bake at 350F 35 to 40 mins or till tester inserted through center of each layer, comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks for 30 mins. Remove to plate and assemble with desired frosting.
