At home we call this Greek Lasagne, yummm

Ingredients

  • Meat Mixture:
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 8oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 tbs chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • salt and pepper
  • Macaroni Mixture:
  • 1 lb elbow macaroni, cooked as directed
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1/4 lb butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • Bechamel Sauce:
  • 3 tbs butter
  • 3 tbs flour
  • 2 cups hot milk
  • Grated mozzarella cheese for topping

Preparation

Step 1

1. Cook pasta as directed, drain

2. Brown ground beef with onions, garlic and parsley till browned. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and tomato sauce, simmer.

3. When pasta is done, put in bowl and add melted butter, eggs and 1/3 cup grated cheese, mix well.

4. In a 13x9" casserole dish spoon in 1/2 of macaroni mixture. Cover that evenly with all of the meat mixture, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Spoon the rest of the macaroni on top of meat and cheese

5. Pour Bechamel sauce over entire casserole and sprinkle remaining cheese and dot with butter

6. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, let cool a bit, and cut into squares
