Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup buttermilk
- sifted icing sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350.
In a bowl, mix together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
In another bowl, beat shortening and sugar until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until well incorporated. Stir in vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, mixing well after each addition.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 12 - 15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Immediately transfer to wire tacks to cool. Dust warm cookies with icing sugar.
