Oven Stew

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 to 2 lbs stew meat
  • 1 large bag frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 pkg. lipton onion soup mix
  • 2/3 cup barley
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup prepared bread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 About 1 1/2 tbsp. salt
  • Pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Place all ingredients in roaster and enough water to cover. Put in oven 250 degrees for 5 1/2 to 6 hours. No need to check or stir.

Variations:
Instead of onion soup mix, chop small onion, add dash garlic salt or use seasoned salt and celery salt. If you do this, cut down on amount of regular salt. Tomato juice may be used instead of part of water.
Use rice, barley or bread crumbs or all three.
This recipe can be made to suit your family's taste. Good way to use left overs in refrigerator. Stew meat and vegetables need not be thawed but if this is the case stir after 1 hour or once during cooking.
