Ingredients

  • 3

    pieces fresh ginger, each about 1/2 inch long

  • 1

    small white onion, thickly sliced

  • 1 1/2

    cups soybean oil

  • Vi cup each vinegar and water,

  • 1/2

    cup Japanese all-purpose soy sauce,

  • 1

    stalk of celery, scraped and sliced

  • 1

    tablespoon thick tomato sauce or tomato paste

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • 1

    teaspoon monosodium glutamate, if desired

  • Salt to taste

Directions

Blend the mixture at medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until the onion and celery are finely minced. Serve the dressing over a salad of crisp lettuce, radishes, finely sliced, and tomato wedges, seeded.
