Watermelon Punch

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 2/3 cup fresh lemon juice (3 large lemons)
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 2 cups fresh orange juice (6-8 oranges)
  • 1 small watermelon
  • Garnish: lime wedges

Preparation

Step 1

Bring first 3 ingredients to a boil in a saucepan. boil for 3 minutes. Cool completly and stir in orange juice. Peel, seed and cube watermelon. Process in a blender until smooth. Pour through a wire-mesh strainer, reserving 3 cups juice, discard pulp. Stir together the watermelon juice and sugar mixture. Chill thoroughly. Serve over crushed ice. Garnish if desired.

Yields: 8 cups

For Cantaloupe Punch:

Substitute cantaloupe for watermelon and use lime juice instead of lemon juice.
