Texas Style Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp. pure chile powder
- 1 tbsp. sweet paprika
- 1 tbsp. mustard
- 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp liquid smoke

Step 1
combine all of the ingredients in a large heavy saucepan and bring to a boil. cook the sauce over moderately high heat, stirring frequently, until thick and richly flavored, about 30mins. let the sauce cool completely, then transfer it to a jar and refrigerate for at least 2 days in order to develop the flavor. warm the sauce before using
