Ingredients

  • for the frosting:
  • 1 8.25 oz. package Pillsbury "Radiant Red" Cake Mix
  • 1-8.25 oz. package Pillsbury "Aqua Blue" Cake Mix
  • water, eggs, oil, as according to package directions
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 lb. powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk, or enough to make this smooth frosting consistency
  • red, white and blue sprinkles

Preparation

Step 1


Prepare and bake cake mixes according to package directions. Cool completely, then remove from paper liners.
Slice each cake in half and then rearrange so each cupcake has a blue and red level.
For the frosting, whip butter, vanilla powdered sugar and milk together until smooth frosting forms. Start adding the milk 1 teaspoon at a time to ensure your frosting doesn't get too thin.
Spread frosting in the middle and on the top of each cupcake. Add sprinkles and serve!

Yield: 24 cupcakes
