Ingredients
- FIRST LAYER:
- 1/2 cup butter/marg, softened
- 1/2 cup granulateed sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 egg yolks
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- SECOND LAYER:
- 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- THIRD LAYER:
- 2 egg whites
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- FOUR TH LAYER
- 3/4 cup salted peanuts, chopped
Preparation
Step 1
FIRST LAYER:
Measure first 10 ingredients into large bowl. Crumble together well. Press into ungreased 9x9 inch pan at least 2 inches deep. This is a higher square than most.
SECOND LAYER:
Sprinkle chips over top of first layer
THIRD LAYER:
Beat egg whites until frothy. Add second amount of sugar 1/3 at a time, beating until stiff. Spread over top of chips.
FOURTH LAYER:
Sprinkle peanuts over top of the beaten egg white, pressing lightly as they tend to fall off when baked. Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 minutes. Cool. Cover to soften meringue for easy cutting.
