Ingredients
- 1 pound sirloin steak
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon packed brown sugar
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon chopped gingerroot
- dash hot pepper sauce
- pinch five-spice powder, optional
- Simple Peanut Sauce
- wooden skewers, soaked in water
Preparation
Step 1
Trim fat from steak. Cut across the grain into 1/4 inch thick strips; cut into 3-inch lengths.
In large bowl whisk together oil, soy sauce, lemon rind and juice, sugar, garlic, ginger, hot pepper sauce, and five-spice powder. Add beef, stirring to coat well. Cover and marinate in refrigerator for at least 4 hours or for up to 8 hours, stirring occasionally.
Reserving marinade, thread 2 pieces of beef onto each of 12 soaked wooden skewers. Place on greased grill over medium-high heat, close lid and cook, turning once and brushing with marinade, for about 4 minutes or until browned but still pink inside. Serve with Simple Peanut Sauce.
