Home Style Butterbeans

Can use lima beans if preferred.

Ingredients

  • 5 thick sliced bacon strips, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 (16oz) pkg butterbeans, frozen
  • 1/2 c firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 c butter
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Cook bacon and onion in large pot for 5-7 minutes.
Add brown sugar and cook, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 minutes or until sugar is dissolved.

Stir in butterbeans and butter and cook until butter is melted and beans are thoroughly coated. Stir in 12 c water.
Bring to boil then reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 2 hours or until beans are tender and liquid is thickened and just below the level of the beans. Stir in salt and pepper.
