Red Enchilada Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 4 tbsp Gebhart chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 tsp sugar
  • 5 tbsp water
  • 5 tbsp flour

Preparation

Step 1

In saucepan, add chicken broth, chili powder, cumin, salt, cinnamon, sugar. Mix everything well and heat to boil. Reduce heat to low boil and cook for 3 minutes. Whisk frequently to make sure everything dissolves.
Add 5 tbsp cold water in small bowl. Whisk flour, 1 tbsp at a time, into water.
After 3 minutes of cooking sauce, turn heat up to high and very slowly pour flour mixture into boiling sauce.
Continue to whisk for 1 minute. Turn off heat and cover with plastic wrap to avoid a skin forming.
