Undercover Cheeseburger - Inspired Gathering

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise, preferably a brand made with olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon onion, finely minced
  • 2 pounds ground beef, 85% lean
  • 6 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 each large hamburger buns, good quality
  • Olive oil, as needed
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1 avocado, pitted and sliced
  • 2 cups iceberg lettuce, shredded

Preparation

Directions:

In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise and onion. Refrigerate until ready to serve burgers.

Preheat grill. Form ground beef into 8 thin 4-ounce patties. Place 1/4 of the shredded cheese in center of 4 patties. Top each with a remaining patty and gently seal edges together with a fork. Season with salt and pepper.

Grill until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the meat registers 160° F.

Separate buns, brush with olive oil and grill until lightly browned. Spread mayonnaise mixture on inside of buns and stack the burger on the bun. Add tomato slices, avocado and lettuce.
