Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 stalks celery, finely chopped
- 8 cups day-old bread cubes
- 2 teaspoons sage
- 2 teaspoons savory
- 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1 cup turkey or chicken broth, approximately
Preparation
Step 1
Melt butter in a large fry pan over medium heat. Add onions and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Add celery and stir for 2 minutes. Pour over bread in large bowl. Stir in seasonings. Gradually stir in broth until moistened, but not wet.
When baking stuffing in a casserole dish, mixture should be more moist than when baking inside turkey. Bake covered for 40 minutes.
