FRENCH ONION SOUP

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sliced onions
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 cups beef consommé
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 slices toasted French bread
  • Mozzarella cheese (grated parmesan may be substituted)

Preparation

Step 1

In large covered saucepan cook onions in butter over low heat about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add consommé and worcestershire sauce; heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 30 minutes. Cube bread and place about ½ slice or desired amount in each of 4 bowls. Pour hot soup over bread and sprinkle with cheese. Cook in hot oven or under broiler until cheese is melted
