Homemade Play Dough
By srumbel
his Homemade Playdough Recipe is sure to keep the little ones very busy. I also love this recipe because the play-dough stays nice and soft due to cooking it slightly on the stove top. I know the summer months can bring those days where the kids are looking for something to do. This is a fun activity that they can help you make and play with for hours!

Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Flour
- 1/4 Cup Salt
- 1 TBS. Cream of Tartar
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1/2 TBS. Vegetable Oil
- Wilton Icing Color Dyes
Preparation
Step 1
Step 1: Combing the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a cooking pan. Whisk all of these ingredients together. This will also help remove any lumps that might be in the flour.
Step 2: Measure out the 1/2 cup of water. Add the Wilton Icing Color Dye to the water. Using a fork, make sure the dye is diluted in the water.
Step 3: Add the water and dye to the dry mix in the cooking pan. Next, add the 1/2 TBS. of vegetable oil. Mix. Step 4: While stirring frequently, cook the mixture for about 30 seconds to 1 mintue on medium to high heat. You will find that your mixture will get thick and “playdough” like. Make sure to continually stir during this process. If you find that your playdough is too thin, cook for a little bit longer. I like to not cook the playdough very long at all because I want it to be nice and soft.
The secret to the bright colors is the Wilton Icing Color Dyes. I’ve used the regular food coloring before and you just don’t get the same results. My kids flip over these bright colors too and prefer them over the regular food colored dyed playdough. So, I definitely recommend trying the Wilton Icing Color Dyes.
