Ingredients

  • 6 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar-- melted and browned
  • 9 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 7 T. corn starch or 1 cup of flour
  • 6 T. butter
  • 1 T. vanilla
  • 2 c. ground pecans

Preparation

Step 1

Brown sugar till melted and golden brown
Pour 3 cups milk, slowly into browned sugar; stirring until well blended. Cook on low heat while stirring. Combine remaining milk with mixture of 3 ingredients ( egg yolks, 1 1/2 c. Sugar, and corn starch ( or flour)) Bring to boil until thick, stirring constantly to keep from sticking. Add vanilla , butter, and pecans. Let cool then pour into baked pie crust. Makes 3 pies.


Helen's Caramel Banana Pie: I make my banana caramel pie the same way. Just leave out the pecans. Then top pies with bananas and whipped cream.
