Baked Chocolate Old Fashioned Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour {I used King Arthur AP flour}
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp butter {melted}
  • For the Glaze -
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 3 - 4 Tbsp buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

ombine all of the dry ingredients
whisk together buttermilk, egg, and butter
add to the dry ingredients, and combine
knead a few times on a well floured surface
roll to about 1/4 inch
cut using a doughnut cutter
place on a lined baking sheet {use one for the doughnuts and another for the doughnut holes}
bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven - 10 minutes for the doughnuts {4 -5 minutes for the doughnut holes}
make the glaze while the doughnuts are baking
whisk together the powdered sugar, 3 Tbsp buttermilk, and the vanilla - adding more milk 1 tsp at a time until you have the desired consistency
cool slightly before glazing
allow the glaze to dry completely before storing in an airtight container
