Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup soft crumbs of sour dough french bread or rolls, lightly packed
- 6 slices bacon
- 1 pound ground chuck
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- dash pepper
- 1 Tablespoon flour
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano

Step 1
Pour 2/3 cup of milk over crumbs and let stand until milk is absorbed. Cook bacon until crisp and set aside. Discard all but 1 Tablespoon of bacon drippings. Add ground chuck, egg, salt and pepper, and crumbled bacon to the bread mixture. Form into balls about the size of gold balls. Saute in bacon drippings, turning until browned all over (be sure you brown them or they will fall apart). Remove meat from pan and stir in flour and oregano. Cook and stir until bubbly. Add remaining milk gradually (1 1/3 cups) and cook until blended. Return meatballs to pan and simmer 15 minutes or longer, stirring occasionally.
