Ingredients
- BREAD PUDDING INGREDIENTS:
- 2 cups milk
- 6 slices of bread, cubed
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 2 Tb. butter
- 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 1 cup grated sweet chocolate
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE:
- 1 lb. light brown sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 Tb. corn syrup
- 1 cup pecans (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
Scald the milk. Remove from heat; Add brad and beat until quite smooth. Add sugar, cocoa and egg yolks. Beat until well blended. Add the butter and vanilla and mix well. Fold in the beaten egg whites and grated chocolate. Pour into an 8-inch square baking dish; set dish in a pan with about 1 inch of hot water. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until firm. Top with the butterscotch sauce and whipped cream.
For the Butterscotch sauce, combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. If you would like, add the pecans to the sauce. You may not want to use the whole cup of pecans.
To serve, scoop up bread pudding into a dish, ladle syrup over top and then put a dollup of whipped cream on top of that.
