Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 Tbsp. soft shortening
- 3/4 cup thick buttermilk or sour milk
- 3- 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation
Step 1
Thoroughly beat the eggs.
Beat in sugar and shortening.
Stir in the buttermilk.
Sift together flour,baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon and add to above mixture.
Turn onto lightly floured board.
Knead 5 or 6 times.
Roll out 1/3 " thick.
Let rest 20 minutes.
Cut with doughnut cutter.
Fry in hot fat (370 - 380 degrees) until brown.
Drain on absorbent paper.
Serve plain or sugared.
