Ingredients
- 1 package of pork sausage
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (8-oz.) can tomato sauce
- 1 T. italian seasoning
- 1 tsp. fennel seeds, crushed (opt.)
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 package lasagna noodles (8-10 noodles)
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 (15-oz.) container ricotta cheese or 2 c. cottage cheese
- 1/4 c. grated parmesan cheese
- 6 oz. or more mozzarella cheese
Preparation
Step 1
In large saucepan, cook sausage, onion and garlic until meat is brown. Drain. Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, italian seasoning, fennel seeds and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer covered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile cook noodles until tender, drain and rinse with cold water. Drain again. For filling, combine egg, ricotta and parmesan cheese. Layer half of the noodles in the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan. Spread half of the filling over the noodles. Top with half of the meat sauce and half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 350 degrees, just enough to get it good and hot.
