Vienna torte Cake

Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup cold water
  • 1 1/3 cup cake flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • 1/3 cup corn starch
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 2 cups powered sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Separate the 6 eggs. Beat the egg whites until stiff and set aside.
Beat the 6 egg yolks with 1 cup of sugar. Add 1/3 cup cold water and 1 1/3 cup flour that has been mixed with baking powder and salt. Fold in the 6 stiffly beaten egg whites. Put in a angel food pan and bake 25 minutes at 350. Cool upside down. When cool, slice into 3 layers.

Frosting:
Cook together the corn starch,sugar,milk, egg and vanilla
until thick and cool. Cream together 1/2 lbs butter and 2 cups powered sugar then add to custard mixture. Cream together.

Frost between layers of cake and top and sides.
