Baked Ziti Pasta

By

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 cup of chopped onion
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 jar of a 32-ounce meatless pasta sauce
  • 1 cup of chicken broth
  • 1 tsp of dried oregano leaves
  • 1 package of a 16-ounce ziti pasta, cooked and drained
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese

Preparation

Step 1

First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook the ground beef with the onions and garlic until the ground beef is browned and then drain off excess grease. Stir in the pasta sauce, oregano leaves and chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

Once the sauce is prepared, stir 1 cup into the cooked and drained ziti pasta. Spoon half of the ziti noodles into a 13-by-9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the noodles with 1 1/2 cups of the shredded Mozarella cheese and one-half cup of the grated Parmesan cheese. Layer the noodles and cheese with 2 cups of the sauce mix, followed by the remaining ziti noodles and the rest of the sauce mix.

Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake the pasta for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and spread the remaining shredded Mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the pasta. Return the uncovered pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Remove from the oven to cool and serve with frozen heat and serve garlic breadsticks and a pre-washed ready-to-eat crisp side salad topped with chopped tomatoes and croutons.
