Bourbon-Brown Sugar Nuts

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c Packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons bourbon
  • 1 cup toasted whole almonds
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Line a shallow baking pan with oil; grease foil. In a medium sauce pan combine brown sugar and bourbon. Bring to boil over medium high, stirring to dissolve sugar. Stir in almonds. Reduce heat to medium; cook four minutes or until syrup thickens slightly, stirring often. Reduce heat to medium low. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper, the cinnamon, and cayenne. (Mixture will be foamy). Cook seven minutes more or until syrup thickens and coats nuts, stirring frequently.
Spread nuts in a single layer in prepared pan. Let cool completely. Break apart. Store in an airtight container up to one week.
