Mother's Favorite Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

  • 1 Cup Shortening
  • 1 Cup White Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Cups Boiling Water
  • 1 Cup Raisins
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Cup Sour Milk
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 2 1/2 Cups Uncooked Quick Oats



Step 1

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add vanilla and salt. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each one. Pour boiling water over raisins and let stand several minutes. Drain. Add raisins to creamed mixture and mix well. Dissolve baking soda in milk. Add flour to creamed mixture, alternating with milk. Add oatmeal and blend together thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonful onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
