Ingredients
- Cake:
- 2 c. flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 stick margarine or butter
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 3 1/2 T. cocoa
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 t. soda
- 1 t. vanilla
- Icing:
- 1 stick margarine or butter
- 3 1/2 T. cocoa
- 1/3 c. milk
- 1 lb. box powered sugar
- 1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
Step 1
Do not use mixer. Combine flour and sugar in large bowl. In a saucepan, combine and bring to a boil, margarine, water, shortening and cocoa. Pour over flour-sugar mixture. Mix. Combine milk, eggs, soda and vanilla. Add to flour mixture, blending together. Pour into a 12x8 inch greased and floured pan. Bake 22 minutes total at 400 degrees. When the cake has baked 18 minutes, cover with icing.
Icing: Combine margarine, cocoa, and milk in a saucepan. Bring to boil; add powdered sugar and chopped nuts. Pour and hot cake and bake the last 4 minutes.
