Italian Hamburger Slices

Ingredients

  • 1 tin Anchovies ground into paste
  • 1 pkg spicy Italian sausage(1 lb?)
  • 2 lbs fresh hamburger
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 2-4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • salt & fresh ground pepper
  • lettuce or spinach for garnish
  • thinly sliced tomato for garnish
  • FOR THE BREAD
  • 1 loaf italian bread of french bread
  • 3/4 clove garlic finely minced
  • 1 small onion minced
  • 1/2 cup evoo
  • salt & pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat Grill
Remove italian sausage from casing and place in large bowl with Hamburger,anchovies,onion,mint,garlic,italian spice,salt and pepper. Mix all ingredients well
On a clean surface covered with plastic wrap pour out meat mixture and shape into a rectangle about the same shape of the bread and 1 inch thick. meat can be slightly larger than bread to allow for cooking shrinkage.
Cut the meat-burger in half making 2 large patties. Place the patties on the grill and cook until the internal temp reaches 155.
To prepare the bread-
saute the garlic clove and onion in the olive oil til softened, about 3-5 minutes, Season with salt&pepper
Cut the loaf(loaves?)in half horizontally through the center. Paint the cut side of each with the oil mixture, coating well. Remove burgers from heat and keep warm on covered plate. Place bread on coals to toast.
Assemble bread, meat,garnish,cut in wedges and serve.
