Italian sausage with chard

  • 1 T olive oil
  • 1 pd sweet Italian sausage
  • 5 cloves garlic thinly sliced or minced
  • 1 pd about 2 bunches swiss chard tough stems removed and leaves cut crosswise in 1/2 inch strips
  • 1/4 t red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 t lemon zest
  • 2 T water
  • Polenta or crusty bread for serving



Step 1

heat oil in large skillet over menium high heat
add sausage links and cook until nicely browned
remove to a plate
add garlic to skillet and cook one min
add chard, crushed red pepper, lemon zest and 2 T water
slice sausages
once chard wilts a little, add sausages to skillet
cover reduce heat to med low about 10 minutes
serve immediately with Polenta or crusty bread
