Dill Pickles (Kosher)

Ingredients

  • 20 to 25 (4-inch) cucumbers
  • 1/8 tsp. powdered alum
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 heads dill
  • 1 hot red pepper (opt.)
  • 1 qt. white vinegar
  • 1 c. pickle salt
  • 3 qt. water

Preparation

Step 1

Wash cucumbers and let stand in cold water overnight. Put into sterilized jars, add the alum, garlic, dill and pepper. Combine vinegar, salt and water. Heat to boiling. Fill jars and put a grape leav on top and seal. These will stay crisp.
