Ingredients

  • 2 pkg active dry yeast or 2 cakes compressed yeast
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk scalded
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3 1/4 to 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 slightly beaten egg
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  • 2/3 cups pecans
  • 2 tsbp soft butter
  • 1/2 sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Mix the milk, sugar, salt and shortening. Stir till shortening melts, cool to lukewarm. Add 1 cup flour, beat well, add egg & yeast. Add enough of remaining flour to make a moderately soft dough. Knead about 8 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease the surface. Cover & let rise until doubled. Punch down, raise again until doubled. Punch down & let rest 10 minutes. Melt the butter, add sugar & syrup heat stirring until blended. Put pecans & butter in pan. Roll out the dough to 24x12. Spread 2 tsbp of soft butter on the dough. Sprinkle 1/2 cup granulated sugar & 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon on dough. Roll the dough from the long side. Cut into slices (20). Place cut side down in prepared pans. Let rise till light about 40 minutes. Pour butter mixture over rolls. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Cool 5 minutes and invert on rack & remove pans.
