SOUTH SIDE COFFEE CAKE

Ingredients

  • FILLING:
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 1 cake of yeast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of warm milk
  • 3 T. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs

Preparation

Step 1

Crumble yeast into flour. Cut in shortening. Mix well. Beat eggs and milk. Add in sugar and salt. Fold in other mixture. Refrigerate overnight.
The next day, divide dough into thirds, and roll each third into a large rectangle. Spread filling on top of dough and dot with butter. Roll like a jelly roll and let rise – for at least 5 hours. Frost rolls while warm.
