Brown Gravy

It is important when adding liquid to a roux, to stir the entire time. This will prevent lumpy gravy.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil. (oil from cooked meat is even better)
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon ole bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oil in sauce pan
Add in flour and cook on low heat for 5 minutes or until flour gives off a slight nutty smell and turns a light tan color.
Add beef broth slowly, stirring constantly.
Add in seasonings.
Simmer on low heat until thickened. Stir frequently
