Ingredients
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 c. quick-cooking oats
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/3 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
Step 1
Pour boiling water over the oats; let stand covered for 20 minutes. Cream shortening and sugars; beat in eggs. Sift dry ingredients together. Add oats to the creamed mixture, then add the flour. Bake in a greased 9 x 12-inch pan at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
Stir topping ingredients and spread on cake; put under broiler until topping bubbles or browns a little.
