Old-Fashioned Jelly Roll

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. cold water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Jelly or jam
  • Cream icing or nuts

Preparation

Step 1

Beat eggs until light; add sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy. Add water and vanilla. Stir until smooth. Sift dry ingredients together and add gradually. Pour batter in a 15 x 11-inch jellyroll pan lined with greased waxed paper. Bake in moderate 375 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Turn out immediately on a tea towel which has been sprinkled with powdered sugar. Cut off edges of cake and remove waxed paper. Spread libberally with jelly or jam. Wrap with tea towel until cool. Remove towel and spread with cream icing and garnish with chopped berries and nuts.
