Caramel Popcorn

Mom's recipe...the BEST!!

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 c brown sugar
  • 1/2 c karo syrup
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • Popcorn: you can use 4 bags of microwave popcorn of pop on stove.
  • Need around 12-15 cups of popped corn.

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium saucepan mix margarine, brown sugar karo syrup and cream of tartar...bring to boil over med heat and let boil lightly for 5 min....stirring!! Remove from heat and add 1 scant tsp baking soda and stir well. Mixture will be foamy. Pour over popped corn which has been placed in roaster pan (top and bottom or like pan). Put in oven at 225 degrees and bake for 1 hour. Stir every 15-20 minutes. Take out of oven after an hour and pour popcorn onto cookie sheets and let cool.
