Hot Buttered Cider

Ingredients

  • 7 C apple cider or apple juice
  • 1/3 C packed brown sugar
  • 4 inches stick cinnamon
  • 1 tsp whole allspice
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • peel from 1 lemon, cut into strips
  • 1 to 1/2 C rum
  • butter
  • thin apple slices (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Combine apple cider and brown sugar in a large saucepan. For spice bat, tie cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and lemon peel in a 6" square of 100% cotton cheesecloth. Add bag to cider mixture.

Bring to boil. Reduce heat sna simmer, covered for 15 minutes. Remvoe and discard bag. Stir in rum.

Pour cider into mugs. Float aabout 1/2 tsp butter on each. Top each serving with 1 or 2 apple slices, if desired.
