Meringue cookies

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 oz chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Beat egg whites until frothy. Add salt and cream of tartar and continue beating to stiff peaks. Gradually add sugar and vanilla. Fold in chocolate and nuts.

Using two spoons, drop batter by teaspoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 25 minutes.

Cookies may be tinted with a few drops of food coloring added before the chocolate.
