Ingredients

    cup oatmeal uncooked; 1 1/4 cup boiling water

  • 1/2

    cup shortening; 1 cup brown sugar; 1 cup white sugar; 2 eggs

  • 1-1/3

    cup flour

  • 1/2

    tsp. Cinnamon

  • 1

    tsp. Soda

  • 1/2

    tsp. Salt

Directions

Combine boiling water and oats. Let stand for 20 minutes. Cream together shortening, sugars, and eggs. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Add oatmeal. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Bake. FROSTING: While cake is baking make the topping by combining 6 T. melted butter, ¾ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup evaporated milk, 1 tsp. Vanilla, 1 cup chopped nuts, 1 cup coconut. Mix and spread on cake just as soon as it is removed from the oven. Place under broiler and broil until frosting is browned.
