Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose Flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, if desired
  • 1 stick ice-cold salted Butter, cut into pieces
  • 2-3 tablespoons cold hot chocolate, brewed coffee or water, I used hot chocolate

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and sugar.

Add in chilled butter and cut into the flour using a pastry blender (my favorite kitchen tool), fork and a knife or just your fingers. Cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Slowly add cold hot chocolate and mix together using a fork and stir until dough becomes soft.

Slightly knead the dough until it is smooth and them shape into a circular disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour (you can keep it in there up to 2 days).

Remove dough from refrigerator and set out for 5-1o minutes at room temperature. Roll out the dough on a cocoa powder or floured surface and transfer to 9-inch deep-dish pie pan. Making sure to trim the crust that is over hanging.

Cover the crust with plastic wrap and set back in the refrigerator for 20 minutes before adding filling and/or baking.
