Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter; 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar; 5 egg yolks
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. flaked coconut
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 5 egg whites stiffly beaten

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter and shortening until soft; add sugar and egg yolk. Mix flour and soda, add to first mixture. Add buttermilk and beat. Add vanilla, coconut and nuts. Fold in egg whites. Pour into greased and floured pans. Bake and cool. Frosting: 1 30z. pkg. Cream cheese, ¼ c. soft butter, 1 pkg. Powdered sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla. Sprinkle a few nuts on top, if desired.
