Ultimate Potato Gratin

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 package bacon
  • 2 tblsp butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, diced
  • sea salt
  • pepper
  • 2 lbs baking potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups grated parmesan

Preparation

Step 1

Shred cabbage and cut bacon into 1/2 inch chunks. Fry bacon in skillet until crisp. Add 1 tblsp butter to bacon fat the 1/2 the garlic. Add the cabbage and coat. Slowly let wilt and then add bacon.

Grease a 9x13 dish. Combine potatoes, 1 1/2 cups cream and 1 cup parmesan in a bowl with remaining garlic. Season with salt and pepper.

Place a layer of potatoes in the dish, sprinkle with cheese and then do two more layers. Spoon the cabbage over potatoes. Top with another layer of potatoes and parmesan. Pour remaining cup of cream over and sprinkle with remaining parmesan.

Cover with foil, bake 1 hour. Remove foil and bake 30 minutes more.
