Ingredients
- 10 cups old fashioned oats
- 1 cup wheat germ
- 1/2 lb. shredded coconut
- 2 cups shelled sunflower seeds
- 1 cup almonds, slivered
- 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
- 1 cup walnuts, roughly chopped
- 1 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 1 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 3 tsp. vanilla flavoring or almond flavoring
- Raisins or other dried fruit to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In a large bowl combine oats, wheat germ, coconut, sunflower seeds and nuts. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, oil, honey, molasses, salt, cinnamon and vanilla. Heat until sugar is dissolved, but do not boil. Pour syrup over dry ingredients and stir until well coated. Spread out on cookie sheets in a single layer. You may need to use more than one sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Bake for 15 minutes longer for crunchier texture. Cool and add dried fruit. Keep in an airtight container. You can keep this for up to 6 months, if it's kept in a cool area.
