Ingredients

  • 2 eggs separated
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water luke warm
  • 4 cups flour

Preparation

Step 1

In mixmaster sligltly beat egg whites, add oil and beat well, add sugar
and beat well.
Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water and add to mixture and beat well.
Add salt and luke warm water and beat well. Add flour 1 cup at a time. Mix until well blended. Cover with a towel and put in the fridge over night . Take out the next day and let stand for 4 hours. Divide into 3 balls and roll into logs for braiding, tuck ends under. Mix egg yolk with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Spread mixture over the bread with a basting brush, reserve some for coating half way through. if desired sprinkle with poppy seeds. Preheat oven to 300. Bake the bread for 30 minutes. Re-glaze with egg mixture. Raise oven temperature to 325 for another 30 minutes. Take out and cool completely. Recipe is for one loaf. The recipe can be doubled.
