Ingredients
- 12 slices sandwich bread, crusts removed
- 1/2 c. butter
- 4 c. cooked chicken, ham or leftover turkey
- 1 (8-oz) can sliced mushrooms or 12 oz fresh
- 1 (8-oz) can water chestnuts, drained and sliced
- 1/2 c. mayonnaise
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can cream of celery soup
- 1 (2-oz) jar pimentos, chopped Shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 eggs, well beaten
- 2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 c. buttered bread crumbs or dressing mix
Preparation
Step 1
Line well greased 13 x 15-inch casserole with buttered bread, buttered side down. Layer meat, mushrooms and chestnuts. Combine pimento, soups, and mayonnaise; spread over top. Spread cheese over top. Mix eggs, milk, salt and pour over top. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 for 1 1/2 hours. Uncover and sprinkle on buttered prepared dressing the last 30 minutes of making.
