Ingredients
- 4 russet potatoes, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 3 TBLSP butter
- 3 TBLSP flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- Salt & pepper to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degees. Butter a 1-qt casserole dish.
Layer half the potatoes into bottom of casserole dish. Top with onions and add the remaining potatoes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
In medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Mix in flour and salt and stir constantly with a whisk for 1 minute. Stir in milk. Cook until the mixture thickens. Stir in cheese all at once and continue stirring until cheese has melted. Pour cheese over the potatoes and cover dish with aluminum foil.
Bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake another 30 minutes.
