Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 C melted butter
  • 1 1/2 C brown sugar
  • 2 t vanilla
  • 1 1/2 t baking soda
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1 t salt (1/2 if salted pecans are used)
  • 1 1/2 C finely ground pecans
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 3 C flour

Preparation

Step 1

Add sugar and vanilla to melted butter. Stir til blended. Add baking soda, baking powder and salt. Mix well. Add ground pecans. Mix Pour in beaten eggs and stir. Add flour and mix till all ingredients are thoroughly blended.

Let dough set for a few minutes. Form into walnut size balls. Place on greased cookie sheet. Chill if too sticky. Flatten with fork in criss cross pattern. Bake 8 - 10 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet 2 minutes.

Frosting
2/4 C butter
3 1/2 C powdered sugar
1 1/2 t vanilla
1/2 t maple flavoring
1/3 C cream
1/2 C finely chopped pecans
6 dozen pecan halves for docoration

Before you start, arrange the cooled cookies on racks or waxed paper. Heat butter in sauce pan until it turns medium brown. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and maple flavoring. Blen in powdered sugar, cream, pecans. Stir until well mixed but not completely cool.

Frost cookies and place pecan half on each. It's like spreading butter. Don't spread all the way to edge. If frosting hardens, put in microwave for 30-60 seconds.
