Ingredients
- 2 lbs. beef stew meat, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
- 1/2 c. flour
- 3 tsp. shortening
- 1 med. onion, sliced
- 1 clove garlic
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. paprika
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 4 c. boiling water
- 6 carrots, sliced
- 8 whole sm. onions
- 5 stalks celery, cliced
Preparation
Step 1
Dredge meat in flour. Melt shortening in heavy skillet or Dutch oven. Add beef, a few at a time, and saute until meat is evenly browned. Do not let meat to touch while browning. Add onion, garlic, seasonings and boiling water. Cover tightly and cook over low heat for 2 or 3 hours, until meat is tender. Add vegetables; continue cooking for 30 minutes, until vegetables are tender.
