Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons dry white wine
  • 3 tablespoons sweet and sour or duck sauce
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 (3- to 3 1/2-pound) beef roast

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a small bowl, combine all ingredients except beef and stir well.

Place beef in an 8-inch square baking dish and pour sauce over the top. Cook, uncovered, 1-1/2 to 2 hours or to desired doneness, basting occasionally.

Remove meat from oven and slice thinly across grain. Serve with pan drippings.

Notes:
To really enhance the flavor of the meat, let the roast marinate in the sauce for 2 to 3 hours or even overnight, turning it once halfway through so the whole roast gets the flavor.
